Interested in showing admitted students around your space but want a more personalized experience? Maybe you have a lab space that needs closed-toes shoes and goggles, or want to limit participation to a certain number per group? We invite you to lead a tour of your lab or department at CPW, showing admitted students the incredible work you do, as well as the facilities and people that make MIT so unique!
How it works
Admitted students can choose to attend two types of events during CPW: an open event (open to all admits), or a sign-up only tour. Sign-up only options are on a first come, first serve basis and are available to sign-up for in the CPW check-in area.
Prior to arriving on campus for CPW, admits can view the date, time, and tour descriptions on their CPW App. During check-in, admits will be able to sign-up for the events they are interested in attending. Registered attendees will then receive the location for the event (this is how we control event capacity!)
What you need to know: did you answer ‘yes’ to any of the questions above? Then a CPW tour might be the right option for you!
Tours may be held on the following days:
- Thursday, April 17, from 1–5 PM
- Friday, April 18, from 9–10 AM or 11:30 AM–5 PM
If you have interest in hosting a tour on Saturday, please reach out to cpw@mitadmissions.org.
Register your lab or department tour no later than Wednesday, April 2.
FAQs
What is the difference between CPW Tours and CPW Events? The two main differences: (1) tours are not open to all admitted students, as these are based on capacity; (2) admitted students must sign-up in person to receive the location of the event (on a first come, first serve basis)
I heard this is only for UROP Tours, is that true? No – any DLC with interest in having students tour their space is welcome to sign up!
When is the best time to host my tour? The times we’ve listed give you the best chance of catching admitted students outside of the more traditional ‘student programming’ hours. If you have interest in hosting a tour outside of the designated hours, please reach out!
What should we be sharing on these tours? Does it need to be a traditional walk-around tour? No! This is really up to you. Some folks use the sign-up only method as an opportunity to connect with admitted students on a smaller scale.
Is there a maximum capacity for tours? That is up to you! The most common range is between 10-20.
Is there a limit to the number of tours we can host? No! You can choose to host as many sign-up tours as you’d like!
